Oil Change

Engine Maintenance and Oil Changes

Changing your vehicle’s oil every 3 months or every 3,000 miles is the best way to protect the most important part of your vehicle, the engine. Many manufacturers will recommend that you change your oil every 5000 miles or more; however, these estimates are based on ideal driving conditions. What you consider normal driving is actually severe driving for your engine.

  • Frequent short trips of 10 miles or less
  • Short trips in cold weather
  • Stop and start city driving
  • Highway driving in extreme heat
  • Driving in dusty conditions like gravel and sand

It could be time for engine maintenance if you notice any of the following when driving or starting your vehicle:

  • A noticeable loss in power
  • A decrease in gas mileage
  • The “Check Engine” or “Service Engine” light remains on after starting the car
  • Your engine stalls when at a stop
  • The engine makes a knocking when accelerating
